My Holiday Plans

Sigh...holidays start in 5 days...but i have nothing planned. I was so busy with my industrial attachment and FYP selection that didn't plan my holidays. So let me first start by writing all the things i HAVE to get done.

1) Clean my room..that includes shelves and wardrobe. I think even i can puke if i stare at it long enough. Need to do up my room so that it looks more attractive. Maybe put up pictures and a notice board for myself. I wanna go down to IKEA to see what i can get.
2) Go gym..maintain a trim and fit body. Reduce the fats and build up muscles. Maintain weight below **kg. (Guess!! Not gonna tell u all my real weight) (:P)
3) Work on Cross-stitch. The one that i have been working on for the last 2 years. I only take it out during the hols...n work on it for 2 days before i put it back into my cupboard...only to take it out in my next hols.
4) Start work on FYP. Need to meet my FYP external prof...which i don't look forward to. I think he will be some old, strict fellow with extremely high expectations.
5) Go for a weekend get-away..at least to Bintan or Redang. i need to go away from Singapore to refresh myself for the up-coming year. Problem here is that i don't have company. So anyone reading this blog, from the female species, if u r keen on going....contact me ASAP. I wanna do this ASAP!!
6) Spend some quality time with friends and family. Go for cycling at ECP, explore the Southern Ridges and go for movie at Vivo (the one with the huge seats)!
7) My friend. Avi, from Pune said she will come down to visit me!! Yay! she said she will be coming down after the 15th July. So ill have to plan the itinerary so that we can go to all the tourists spots in Singapore. At least ill have sumone with me for a few days to spend time with. First time my fren is coming to visit me... i m sooo excited!=D
8) Plan what to do for my birthday. I have roughly settled it. Calling my frens over for dinner. I have even bought my birthday dress. It's a white dress that i always wanted. Yay!
9) Continue my tuition with Neelu. Set some time aside to go swimming with her. She has been asking for a long time now.
10) Catch up on new seasons on CSI NEW YORK, CSI MIAMI and CSI. I haven't sat down to watch quality TV for ages..so gonna have to do that.
11)Keep my blog updated! =D

That seems like that's a handful for a month of holidays. Good....i wanna keep myself occupied. An empty mind is a devil's workshop. and i have no intentions of being a devil. Muaahahhaahaha. Hmmm....Did i miss out anything?

~The Weekend before IA ends~

The final weekend before IA ends. One more 'Monday blues' to face. One more week of waking up at 5/6 am in the morning. And then..one month of holidays. This weekend was quite special as i intended to do absolutely nothing. No plans to meet friends, no plans to go out with parents. I wanted it to be a spontaneous weekend. Well it ended up to be like just another weekend. Quite boring yet satisfying.
After a wonderful dinner with the interns at Cafe Cartel at IMM, i came home...all geared up to watch my long overdue Hindi movie.. Jannat. I was tired from a whole week of running ard, tuitions and meeting up with "The Gang"..so i really doubted my ability to stay awake and sit through the whole movie, but i had it all sorted out. I would drink coffee if that's what it takes to keep me awake. i wasn't going to spend a precious friday night sleeping!
So at 11.15, i started my movie screening. Jannat was alright. Nothing attention-grabbing, nothing extraordinary. Quite predictable actually. The music was good. I managed to sit through the whole movie!=)
Then came Saturday. My day started at 11.45 am when i opened my eyes. The afternoon ran passed without me realizing. And i was really bored by the time evening came. So i decided to go for another movie with my sister. It has been a long time since we had a sister outing. We went for a 9.25 pm show at AMK hub, for Kung-Fu Panda. I love animated movies as they are a brainless watch. But this movie somehow disappointed me. It wasn't that funny. The animated was good. But the characters were not the ones i would remember. They were nothing like Mr. Incredible or Nemo.

Sunday was gone giving tuition and sleeping. There are guests coming over this evening so that will be gone entertaining them. I hope to fill up the application form to re-new my passport. And i hope this week flies by...so i can start enjoying my holidays. I hope i can go sumwhere for a quick break..i.e. Bintan or Redang. But that doesn't look like it's working out. Let's see what the next month has in store for me......

The Gift

"Some people just come through our lives to bring us something, a gift, a blessing, a lesson we need to learn, and that's why they are here.." The Gift
A truly amazing book. It was indeed magical. The day i spent reading this book, i felt like i was somewhere else....far far away. This book brought tears in my eyes more than once..and honestly i am sad i finished reading it. It made me reflect on my own life...and appreciate the people who have come into my life. They were/are here for a reason....everyone in your life is a gift to u. 5 Stars to this book!
I don't think i can say much to justify what i am feeling now. I m just overwhelmed with emotions. This book has touched my heart. All i can say is... I hope i can find a guy like Thomas Whittaker....he is a fictional character but i have fallen in love with him. (:P) I Love u Tommy!
And i would also like u say something to the real people out there....
To everyone i know, thank you for blessing me..thank you for your advice, for helping me, for comforting me, for bearing with me..and for just simply being there! I love u all!=)

~The one with the Monopoly game~

It was a typical Sunday. Gloomy skies, wet streets and more rain predicted by the weather-man. My sentosa plans with my intern friends has gotten cancelled because of the bleak weather forecast. It looked like it was going to be a Sad Sunday. Instead of having a relaxed morning, i woke to have my internet and my gtalk playing pranks on me. I couldn't log onto any google website or sign into my gtalk messenger. I was really upset and thought i had no other choice but to format my lappy( As you can see....i m a computer dummy). So the rest of the morning was spent backing up my data on my external hard drive.

By afternoon, i had finished backing up my data and was all geared up to format my lappy. I took a quick lunch and came back to start the formatting. I made one last attempt to try signing into my gtalk...and guess what..it started working again! Woo hoo! I didn't have to format my lappy anymore. I was back to my happy state.=)

I headed down to Charu's place in the late afternoon. Her parents had gone to Cameron Highlands in Malaysia and we were going to take this opportunity to rule the house. We headed down to the mall to get groceries for the feast we had planed ahead. Pop-corn, drinks, chicken and other random things. We then trudged back home to get started with the cooking. Charu was the chef and me and Param were her assistants. Due to the late arrival of the 2nd assistant (Param), 1st assistant (Me!!) sprung into action and helped Chef Charu to cut up the food. Chef Charu was busy mincing the chicken fillets and boiling potatoes. It was only after the arrival of 2nd assistant Param that 1st assistant Preeti could take a break. 2nd Assistant Param helped with the mashing of potatoes and washing of the dishes. She also learnt how to make Chef Charu's delicious sausages first hand! It was a pretty sight indeed! Dinner was prepared in under 2 hours and consisted of Shepherd's pie and yummy sausages. (We don't believe in healthy living, hence we do not serve veggies):P
Now it was time for some fun. Monopoly was next on the menu. The engineer against the two accountants. Afraid of some embezzlement scandal by the accountants, the engineer took up the daunting task of becoming the banker. (:P)

Game was going smooth...the 1st and 2nd assistants kept going to jail leaving Chef Charu to rule town after town. She started building houses, and then hotels. Chef Charu had a whole empire set-up while the 1st and 2nd assistants fought over Marvin Gardens and Indiana! After 2 and a half hours of hardship and struggle, 1st assistant Preeti finally declared bankruptcy. As it was time to 'close shop' , 2nd assistant Param and Chef Charu began counting their assets. Chef Charu emerged has the clear winner. Then it was time for 1st and 2nd assistants to head back home. After the final photo-taking ceremony, they headed back home feeling happy and satisfied. They had had a delicious meal and a wonderful time @ Chef Charu's place! It was a wonderful Sunday after all..!!=)

Industrial Attchement

6 Months industrial attachment was part of my 4 year study of bioengineering in NTU. I was attached to Merck Sharpe & Dohme, a pharmaceutical company. I wasn't sure what to expect, what i would be required to do, and what kind of people i would interact with. On the first day, i met several other people in a similar situation like mine. We were all in NTU or NUS, attached to MSD for our 6 month attachment. We came from different backgrounds, and were under different departments. We all had no clue what our department or what our jobs were all about. We all had no clue who the people beside us were. How things changed over 6 months!

My closest friend in MSD was my fellow course-mate and intern Zi yen. We were from the same course and were attached to the same department. At first, i had my doubts about working with her. I did not know her well and she seemed quite different. Quite reserved....hardly saw her in lectures in school and she was always with her friend Averil (who was also interning with us , but from a different department). Over the last 6 months, we became very good friends. We both helped each other out when needed, enthusiastically cleaning the lab with our innovative 5S ideas, carrying out routines HPLCs and discussing all the various company gossips. Working together with her, i realised how similar we were in our thinking. I had the most amount of fun working with her to make our video for the interns presentation. I think it was one if the best video (technically) that I am glad i had an opportunity working with her. I think she is one of the nicest people around from BIE. =) I didn't get an opportunity to work with Avril as much I knew she is a sweet girl as well. What struck me most of her was her contagious laughter. When Avril laughs, you feel like a small kid is laughing, and you feel like laughing with her!!

There were a total of 13 of us interning there. Each person distinctly different and unique from the rest. Daniel is straightforward and frank, and is the genius among all of us. He seemed like a hard worker who had his priorities right. I remember how me and Zi Yen were so enthusiastic about helping him with his Valentine's day crush. Hsein Long was terrified of his supervisor and used to tell us all the scary stories of how his sup was bullying him. We all got scared of his sup after that.Marilyn is the rose among the thorns of NUS guys. A very sweet girl with a good sense of humor and who likes mambo! En ping could never stop talking about his cycling trips to Thailand and his secrets to having a trim and fit body. I must admit though..they were very educational!=P I admire his fitness and i m very jealous of his extremely high metabolic rate( He eats all day..but looks as fit as a fiddle)! Alvin's 'Why??' never failed to intrigue me in more ways than one. Kok Hong has this air of mystery around him. His views on girls, fashion and relationships are interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Lai peng and Siang fu's quiet but obvious relationship status was the talking point amongst the interns. Sagar was the weirdest of them all. He hardly joined us for lunch and was extremely quite when he did. And finally, the hardcore gymmer, Chandra!! Mr. muscles man and his 'HUMP'!! His interns presentation video was the most hilarious video i have seen. Chee Yan joined us only for about 4 weeks but her stories about Ipoh and diving were enjoyable.

Having such characters with me, i never failed to have a interesting day at work. I will miss them all, especially in my last two weeks at work. =)

~My first blog~

I finally set-up my own blog...yay! I don't know why it never occurred to me create my own blog. I guess before this i never felt like i had to write my thoughts down. I have never been the kind of person who keeps a diary. But now i feel like i should capture these moments somewhere so that when i grow old, i can look back at my life and re-collect these moments. Maybe i m suddenly realising i m growing old. Gosh! I guess this is also a way i can share my life with my friends and hear what they have to say. Plus it's a really good way to pass time, which i have a lot these days.=)

I have decided to dedicate my first blog entry to all those people who have helped or inspired me to set it up. I only had this sudden urge to set-up my blog last Monday. It was a boring day at work and i had nothing to do for that time. I decided to see my friend's Marilyn's blog. She had written something about about her experience at MSD,(where we both are currently interning) and i felt like i could really connect to what she was saying about her experience there and how she was feeling at that time. And suddenly i felt like i too, wanted to write down my memories about my internship and lots of other events in my life as well. I have read lots of my friends' blogs before but never had such inspiration to set-up my own one before...so thank you Marilyn!

Hmmm, next person i want to dedicate this blog entry to is my very dear and close friend, Ashwin. He was the one who helped me think of a name for my blog. So many people have blogs these days that no matter which name i used, it wasn't available. But with Ashu's help i finally managed put a name to my blog. U rock ASHU!!

Well i guess that's about it for my first post. I am so excited about this!! I hope don't get bored of blogging too quick...i can never stick to doing one thing for a really long time. Hopefully that will change! =)
